The band initially consisted of four musicians – Graham Gouldman, Eric Stewart, Kevin Godley, and Lol Creme. The group featured two songwriting teams, one "commercial" and one "artistic". Stewart and Gouldman were pop-songwriters, who created most of the band's accessible songs.
